Bam Adebayo Helps Team USA Secure Narrow Victory Against South Sudan

 Team USA remains undefeated in their exhibition games this summer, though it hasn’t been without challenges from their opponents. In a close match against South Sudan, Team USA managed to secure a narrow 101-100 victory, thanks in part to a critical defensive stop featuring Miami Heat star Bam Adebayo.

Bam struggled early in the game, racking up three fouls by the second quarter. Unlike the NBA, where a player fouls out after six fouls, FIBA rules allow only five fouls before disqualification. This early foul trouble limited Adebayo's playing time in the first half, which significantly impacted Team USA's defense.

Despite their immense talent, Team USA showed they cannot afford to play carelessly. Turnover issues plagued the team, and their defense was lackluster in the first half, allowing South Sudan to shoot over 50 percent from the field. Without Adebayo's defensive presence for most of the second quarter, Team USA struggled, trailing South Sudan 58-44 at halftime, even though they were favored to win by 40 points.

Adebayo redeemed himself in the second half. He started alongside Anthony Edwards, Derrick White, Jayson Tatum, and Anthony Davis. This unit successfully cut South Sudan's lead to five points before the starters returned to regain control of the game. Although Bam was less impactful offensively, finishing with only two points and one rebound, his defensive contributions in the second half were crucial, especially in the final seconds to secure the victory.

The game highlighted the importance of Adebayo's presence on the court for Team USA. While his performance against South Sudan was not as impressive as his previous game against Serbia, his defensive efforts were vital for the team's success. Moving forward, Team USA will need a more consistent effort from Bam to avoid narrow victories and potential losses in future games.
